Day 10 Wednesday

20 Aug

No WiFi yesterday in the badlands. This is the evening view from our site.

We got up to the sunrise in time for pictures and a haircut.
Northbound on #22 Killdeer Mountain Four Bears Scenic Highway goes though the breaks. Eventually we got to crazy busy oil town Watford City. We have never seen more trucks; everyone owns a pickup and the highways are conjested with large tractor trailer rigs hauling construction gear. Mixed with road construction and repairs it is a zoo.
We drove the scenic loop in the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
We followed hwy #16 south

it’s a beautiful little used scenic highway, to Beach. We ended up camping for $6 at Buffalo Gap primitive camp in the Little Missouri National Grassland where I did some route planning and photo editing. Too close the interstate highway for a quiet sleep, but ok.

Up early this Wednesday morning and went just a short drive east to the Cowboy Cafe in Medora for breakfast and a stop at the TRNP visitor’s center

and then into the south unit driving loop.

Beautiful green scenery, we saw lots of “tatanka” look closely in the background of my rock picture.

We have probably 100 closeup pics with the Fuji to sort out and post later.

We returned to the visitors center in Beach to use the WiFi and catch up, as well as roughly route plan the next few days.

We are staying in Broadus MT in “the” motel. The weather forecast is nasty and although it’s nice presently the flies would drive us crazy.

Looks like an amazing trip Gord, I really must take the Vstrom off this Rock one of these days. How is your Subaru treating you on the road trip?
