Cottage roadways and access

P1140729cottageI spent much of today working on the road that goes into the family cottage. It crosses over private property by way of a legal right-of-way and has been in regular use for at least forty years. Many cottagers in Ontario experience difficulties with their access and the issue of private lanes and maintenance can become very complex and expensive. Reading the Road Access Act will provide lots of information but parts of it are open to differnt legal opinions and interpretation. There are many cases of disputes; some ending in court and others go on for years and remind me of the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud. The surveyors were hired to locate the boundary monuments and mark out the limits and do some preliminary mapping. The landowner, in this picture, was closeby at all times watching.
