Luckily I’ve not needed any of these “on the shelf” remedies.

You’re missing a great day in Ottawa. It never got below 23C last night, and today warmed up to 31C or so. When a front (with buckets of rain) blew through, we thought things would cool down. No such luck; the water all evaporated, so now it’s — no exaggeration — about 400C with the relative humidity around a million percent. At least you have a breeze going past you.

Last night, I was up from about 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. watching the TV feed from Jet Propulsion Labs as the Curiosity probe entered the Martian atmosphere and made a flawless descent, which involved a supersonic parachute and a skycrane. Because the probe was out of direct line-of-site of Earth, the signals were relayed by the Odyssey spacecraft orbiting Mars. Within a minute of landing, the first picture was received.

Although Curiosity is on a whole different scale than your excursion, my memory is sufficiently long that I shake my head in amazed wonder at the degree of connectedness we experience today, and how it compares to the situation 50-some years ago when the first satellites were put into orbit.

So far, your photos are more colourful and interesting, but I think the competition will be on your tail shortly!
